Thanks to Tiger Lim for getting me a ticket to attend ThinkBig Technology Forum organized by Asia Inc & iCenter. I was pretty excited to attend this event in hoping to learn and get inspired by the speakers.

They invited people like:

  • Brian Koh (Deputy Director, NUS Enterprise)
  • Khoong Hock Yun  (Assistant Chief Executive Officer, Infrastructure and Services Development Group, Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore)
  • Kevin Walsh (Chief Technology Officer, Oracle Asia Research and Developments Centers)

The topic and discussion consist of:

  • BSP Technical Innovation: The story of Champion
  • Embracing The Future: Global Trends and Challenges
  • e-Government: Connecting with the Citizens
  • Globalization of Technology Innovation
  • At the Heart of Innovation: “Delivering World Class Technology in Brunei”

How I find the whole event? I like the venue, the program layout, and the opportunity to hear peoples participant with asking questions, opinion and ideas. Some of the question that been raised up is top notch and bringing awareness of the issues.

However I feel that keynote that address by the speakers is too generalisations and constantly bringing China/ Singapore into the pictures and quite a lots of marketing talk. While I can understand it is their expertise and the venue they working at, instead of talking about 1 Data Center with over thousands server in one node, big server, big info structure, big network, big cooperation. I am more interested on how to think BIG!

But I can see that some of the ideas that’s been brought forward is new to some of the participants. Overall I can said the event is a success, it is just that I go with the wrong expectations.

So did I learn anything from here? Definitely YES, just not as much as I expect it to be >w<

Moon Ring

IMG_0729 IMG_0733

I was dead tire when I arrived home, and it was around 12plus am at that time. But the moment I look up to the sky and saw the moon with the moon ring, my sleepiness was completely shine off by the beauty. I grabbed my camera and start playing around with the composition and settings. By the time I am done with the photo shooting, I have easily spend over half an hour there While I wasn’t satisfy with the outcome, but I think it is worth to share with you all.

Sometime we can be so engross with the task before us that we forgot to look at what is around us. If I have set my mind to rush to my room instead of looking up to the sky, I would have missed this opportunity. So, slow down, put down the stuffs that you are doing for 1 minute and start to appreciate the things that around it, who know you mind something interesting? This 1 minute of break and energized you beyond your belief. ^w^

My walk around Tamu Kianggeh, Bandar. Brunei

IMG_0132-Edit

I decided to walk around Tamu Kianggeh to build up my experience. For those who do not know, tamu is a malay words for market, it is one of the most happening place in Bandar Seri Begawan, especially during the weekend.IMG_0171-Edit

IMG_0113-Edit

Due to its location beside the river bank and Kampung Ayer, you can see lot’s of water boat going around fetching people from one destination to another. It is also one of the main transport to travel between water village and the main land. In fact, a few of them asking me wanna take a boat ride to tour around Kampung Ayer (with a price tag). By the way I realized that it is not a common sight in Brunei to see chinese holding a DSLR and walk around. Maybe that’s why they assume me as one of those tourist?

Since it is a market, it is a place where you can find vast variety of local foods, fruit, meat, vegetable and souvenir with a pretty good price. Majority of the vendor is Malay while you can find some other races doing their business here. IMG_0120-Edit

Once again through this walk I have learned a few more lesson which I have to remind myself:

1. Research

Do some research on your destination and know your subject as much as possible.

2. Plan

This is one of the lesson that really strike me as I walked around. Without research and planning, I am basically like a headless chicken, not knowing what I should do and where should I go. “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail” which is so true for my case.

3. Be Bold

I am too reserve and shy, in another words too chicken >w<

I have read handful of topic and blog with regarding street photography, and a lot of time they emphasis on being close to the subject. While it is easy to say about it, but doing it myself is a whole lot of different story.

As I sit down and review through my collections of photo, in all honesty I can’t find any image that is particular immersing or striking , or tell much story at all. My skill set and composition skill still have a long way to go. The other thing is I really should be more courageous to approach the people for photo snapping, since most of them actually taught that I am a tourist (which can be an advantage on its own); and in general Bruneians is pretty polite.IMG_0176-Edit

Some Story to lighten your day

#1.

Bill, Jim, and Scott were at a convention together and were sharing a large suite on the top of a 75-story skyscraper. After a long day of meetings they were shocked to hear that the elevators in their hotel were broken and they would have to climb 75 flights of stairs to get to their room. Bill said to Jim and Scott, let's break the monotony of this unpleasant task by concentrating on something interesting. I'll tell jokes for 25 flights, and Jim can sing songs for 25 flights, and Scott can tell sad stories the rest of the way. At the 26th floor Bill stopped telling jokes and Jim began to sing. At the 51st floor Jim stopped singing and Scott began to tell sad stories. "I will tell my saddest story first," he said. "I left the room key in the car!"

#2.

A man was driving along the highway, and saw a rabbit hopping across the middle of the road. He swerved to avoid hitting the rabbit, but unfortunately the rabbit jumped in front of the car and was hit. The driver, being a sensitive man as well as an animal lover, pulled over to the side of the road and got out to see what had become of the rabbit. Much to his dismay, the rabbit was dead. The driver felt so awful he began to cry. A woman driving down the highway saw the man crying on the side of the road and pulled over. She stepped out of her car and asked the man what was wrong. "I feel terrible," he explained. "I accidentally hit this rabbit and killed it." The woman told the man not to worry. She knew what to do. She went to he car trunk and pulled out a spray can. She walked over to the limp, dead rabbit, and sprayed the contents of the can onto the rabbit. Miraculously, the rabbit came to life, jumped up, waved its paw at the two humans and hopped down the road. 50 meters away the rabbit stopped, turned around, waved at the two again, hopped down the road another 50 meters, turned, waved, and hopped another 50 meters. The man was astonished. He couldn't figure out what substance could be in the woman's spray can! He ran over to the woman and demanded, " What was in your spray can? What did you spray onto that rabbit?" The woman turned the can around so that the man could read the label. It said: " 'Hare Spray' Restores Life to Dead Hare. Ads Permanent Wave."

#3.

A couple, desperate to conceive a child, went to their priest and asked him to pray for them. "I'm going on a sabbatical to Rome," he replied, "and while I'm there, I'll light a candle for you."
When the priest returned three years later, he went to the couple's house and found the wife pregnant, busily attending to two sets of twins. Elated, the priest asked her where her husband was so that he could congratulate him.
"He's gone to Rome, to blow that candle out" came the harried reply.

Hopefully, this can bring some smile to your face and continue to face the week with joy ^w^

Big catch for the day

So what happen if you love to eat fish? Too lousy to go fishing? But got a brother that just love fishing, some more good at it? It will be like “OH Yeah!!!”

Tan Lee Yong, eldest in the family, the father of 4 children of coz with one wife. The main chef of the house, care taker of the house, any problem regarding home, car, electronic, foods, + fisherman of the house >w<

Fishing have been one of his favourite hobby for the last few years, and I can really see his passion on it. Honestly after my brother into fishing, our family have hardly buy fish from the market at all. Since my brother has been very good with fishing and catch quite a few big fish for the house, and what’s the result? Just check it out yourself ^W^

I think this will take us a few week to finish them all?

IMG_0097-Edit

This is the biggest one that he caught for the day, and weight approx 3.5kg! Btw, he have caught fish bigger than this, just that I didn’t have any chances to take photo of it, since it already go into our stomach faster than my camera shutter speed.
