Didn’t take much photo this time, maybe I am too concentrated on the foods instead, foods taste great and especially the beef is fabulous tender and delicious.  Thanks for the invitation, Sofee.

Wedding of Kevin & Marites

IMG_3635-Edit Attended Kevin & Marites wedding dinner at sat night in Rizqun International Hotel. Due to near Hari Raya seasons and long weekend, Gadong was literally jammed pack with cars. It took me nearly 30mins to find a parking.

Anyway, I take this opportunity to try out wedding photography, not as a employed photographer but just a invited guest that take time to snap.

Wedding photography really post quite a number of challenge itself, dealing with low lights, inconsistence lighting, dynamic of events, high ceiling and etc. Honestly, if I didn’t have a flash guns or a prime lens, I would have bang my head against the wall many times.

The first dance for Kevin & Marites

During the dinner, many times I wise I have either 17-50mm f2.8 or 24/28/30mm prime lens or even 70-200mm f2.8 for zoom, those lens will make your life so much easier for this kind of situation. Also to have another body to save time on swapping lens is like almost compulsory.

But at the end, the most important thing is still about composition and taking beautiful photo for the newly wed.  Thanks God I’m not full time paid photographer, or else when they look at my work they may demand a refund XD

I have lot’s of fun running around shooting photo after photos, it is an interesting experience for me and I really learn quite a few things from there.

Kevin & Marites, I wish that as you two journey down to a new season and new path in your life, not just learning how to learn and support one another in good times or bad times. But the blessing will overflow that you have no choice but to continue bless others peoples in your journey together with many more years of joy & happiness. God bless :)

Sungkai dinner with Pakistan style

 IMG_2827-Edit copy

Last night, around 28 of us went to Seri Damai Restaurant for Pakistan foods. While we at Brunei get to enjoy alot of India foods, but this is the first time I tried Pakistan foods. To my taste, Pakistan foods is very similar to India foods with slight twist of taste due the different spices & herbs they used.

BirdSnaps

Attempts some birds shoot since the opportunity is given to me. By the way, if any of you know the name of the birds I have over here, please kindly drop a comment or something so I can labour them here properly. Instead of just calling them “BIRDS”

2 love birds went on for a walk.IMG_0342-3

Is this a crow or something else?

IMG_2764-3

I finally understand why they said you can never have enough zoom range when it come to shoot birds. Even with my EFS 50-250mm which is close to 400mm for a FF camera, I still struggle with the distance. All this shoot is taken less then 8 feet away from the objects, anything closer than that they will fly away.

Really have to give a hat off for those professional bird photography, it is freaky tough to shoot down the bird especially when they are in motion.

Sunset @ Empire Hotel

Decided to try out sunset shoot at Empire Hotel

IMG_2594-Edit

IMG_2618-s Honestly I wasn’t too happy with the result of this trip. The sunset and beach shoot turn out quite flat for my taste, HDR & panorama shoot also didn’t turn out that well also. At time like this I do wish that I have a ultra wide or fish eyes lens, but I just have to make do with what I have now and learn how to snap better photo.

Love it 50mm prime lens

IMG_1505-1

It’s been 10days I owned my very first prime lens Canon EF 50mm 1.8 mkII, I can honestly said that I love it!!! It is one of the best lens money can buy, the ability to use large aperture to differentiate object and background is what other zoom lens cannot do. The best zoom lens can go up to 2.8 only while this can go 1.8!!!  I am not gonna say that prime is better than zoom lens, since prime and zoom both serve different purpose. But if I want to compare the color contrast, saturations and sharpness between my EFS 18-55mm IS and EF 50mm; EF 50mm win hands down.

IMG_1464-Edit

While on the cons side, the build quality is really light and plastic and not versatile. I really need to work harder and change lens more often then before.

Will I stick to prime lens only? No. Will I still use zoom lens? Yes. Will I buy another prime lens or upgrade 1.8 to 1.4? Maybe. And I going to buy a f2.8 zoom lens? Yes, but need to save more $$

But as for now, 50mm has become my main shooting lens at this moments.

Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 MKII

I have been wanted to acquire this lens for almost a month plus, somehow either no stock in the market or the price just isn’t right for me. Then yesterday I received a call from Interhouse, the authorize dealer of Canon in Brunei and saying that they have stock, so I dropped by today to get my copy.

IMG_0978

Like all other reviewers/ comments from internet, the moments I lay my hand on it, I can feel the plastic across the whole lens, and it feel extremely light and fragile. Of course you can’t really expect a lens this cheap yet build like a tank, autofocus is ok, not really fast and it hunt during low light or on the white/black surface.

But the f/1.8 really show the difference when you started to compare the different. Especially how it effect bokeh and shutter speed. The first one is ISO 100, f/8 and shutter speed of 1/20sec, the 2nd photo taken with ISO100, f/1.8 and shutter speed of 1/400!!! And you actually can see the difference when you comparing the 2 photo.

IMG_0938-2IMG_0934-1

Since this is only the first day I got this lens, I can’t really comment how will I rate this lens; but I can feel that I may get addicted to the power of wide open aperture and high shutter speed. But only time when tell regarding that.

Nostalgic Part II

024

Continue digging out more of my old photo, and this is another part of my life when I was in Perth, Australia. The biggest ever change of my life, another word “turning point” of my life is none other than my time in Australia. It was really a life changing experience for me, I meet new places, culture, and more importantly new friends and ultimately Him. It is the time in Perth that really mole me to who I am now. 019

022 The 3 years in Edward College has been a wonderful & unique experience, I been from a not music person to guitar player, not sporty person to basketball player, a not outgoing/introvert and yet able to meet previous friend and been various places. It is really a time that worth remember.
