MV Doulos in Brunei

Sat, 27th OCT, 2007 ~ 3rd, NOV, 2007 MV Doulos one of the biggest floating library ported in Brunei after a long wait of more than 8years.

Doulos was purchased in 1977 by Gute Bücher für Alle e.V. (Good Books for All), a private, non-profit, charitable organisation registered in Germany.

Over 20 million visitors have been welcomed on board for tours, programmes and visits to the floating book fair. With stops in over 500 ports of call, this unique ship has visited more than 100 countries in including Africa, the Americas, Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East and many island nations.

Doulos is recognised in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's oldest active ocean-going passenger ship.

The MV Doulos currently holds the biggest floating library in the world.



I have opportunity to meet quite a few crews in/ out of the ships, while most of them are westerners, I also get to meet peoples from korea, japan, Taiwan & etc, it is truly a multicultural and multi nations experience. I went onboard on Sunday afternoon and Thursday night for various reasons, in both occasion I see peoples just line up and wait to be onboard, and see them spending time reading and buying the books, who said Bruneian don’t like to read book? They just need more selections of books with a good price!!!
